NASA engineers have given Endeavour's heat shield the thumbs up. After studying images of the leading edges of the shuttle's wings, as well as of its nose, they see no reason to worry about re-entry.
Film taken of the launch last Friday night showed pieces of foam insulation breaking off the external tank, and there was concern that the orbiter's heat shield might have been damaged. That seems not to have happened.

not to dampen your Shuttle post, was a very informative interesting read, that being said:
I am disappointed in NASA's decision to work some 20 years with the Shuttle being the Exclusive vehicle in the fleet. Being the Saturn had been to the moon landed a craft there and returned the astronauts safely; seems they they developed the shuttle and their work was done and the shuttle can't go beyond Earths orbit. Am I the only one to see a problem here?
